Important Budget Announcement

In case you missed it, at the BOE meeting on Tuesday night, 2/2, there was a cut introduced at the end of the discussion on RC 24, Special Education. In a break with traditional protocol, board member Dennis Maroney added $146,586 to the cut list, to eliminate the funds necessary to make a change at the elementary schools from SESS facilitator to the addition of a second Assistant Principal.

Please watch the replay in the YouTube link here.  Conversation starts at 1:58:30 and goes to 2:26:30.

One group, SEPAC, spoke out against the change in the Public Hearing. Their comments begin around 49:29. This comment was the reason cited by both Maroney and member Jill McCammon as to why they now want to consider this late cut.

Based on the feedback we solicited from you, the CDSP voiced support for the change to AP from SESS in two speeches that night; the Co-Chair speech and the combined Elementary speech. Neither McCammon nor Maroney acknowledged this support. Both speeches are attached below for your review.

Since the cut has been proposed after the Public Hearing, we wanted to make you aware and ask that you direct your comments or questions about this newly proposed cut to the Board of Education and Dr. Addley.  Additionally, there will be public comment at the start of next Tuesday’s (2/9) BOE meeting. Later in that meeting, they will vote on both the adds/cuts and the overall budget. Email addresses can be accessed here.

The District’s presentation on transitioning from SESS to AP begins at 1:46:30 in the link here.
