Darien YWCA Parent Awareness in partnership with Elementary School PTOs present “GIRL TALK: What Every Girl Needs to Know About Puberty.” Thursday, April 27th from 6:30-8pm at Holmes Elementary School. This workshop is intended for girls approaching puberty (approximately ages 10-12) and their mother or caretaker. Join speaker Diane Frankel-Gramelis from Yale School of Public Health for a straightforward and entertaining discussion on the physical and emotional changes of puberty where she will help teach your daughter what to expect in the future. There will be Q&A at the end. Note: This is NOT a sex talk, it’s a starting point for further discussions about your daughter’s changing body.As a parent, you are in the best position to decide whether your daughter is ready to hear about the changes that come with puberty including topics such as:BO—what’s that smell?; Breast buds and development–what are we training with a bra anyway?; What exactly do I look like down there?; What about discharge? What’s that in my underwear?; and Basic anatomy and periods. Register at www.ywcadn.org.
