Wanted: Great Books! | January 23rd – February 3rd

As you may know, our school has been creating lists of books that students wish were in their classroom libraries!  We will be purchasing some of these books, but it occurred to us that you might be weeding out great books as your kids grow out of them.  We have compiled our wishlists and have organized them by grade and by title:

If you have any of these books and would be willing to donate them, please drop them off at Hindley to be distributed to classrooms.  We have already had some books come in and the students were so excited to read them!

As for all the other books you might have to donate, the ones that are not on our requested lists, we have a solution! We would love for you to bring these to Hindley as well.  There might be some books that were not on our lists that classroom libraries would love to have.  If we cannot use them in our libraries at Hindley, we have another wonderful home for them.   We are partnering with Unite for Africa, an organization whose mission is to increase awareness about the importance of education and its impact on empowering youth in Sub-Saharan Africa, growing marginalized children’s chances of survival and success. Education is foundational in separating 3rd world countries from 1st world countries. They collect ALL books including textbooks, workbooks, how-tos, and literary books (K-12).

So, starting Monday, Jan. 23 and running through Friday, Feb. 3, bring your books to Hindley. Deposit those that have been requested by our students in the container labeled “Spruce Tree Donations” and all others in the container labeled “Other Books” Containers will be located by the front door.

If you have any questions, you can reach out to our Literacy Specialist Amanda Elgert at aelgert@darienps.org, our Librarian Jackie Heyde at jheyde@darienps.org, or our Principal Keri Snowden at ksnowden@darienps.org.
