National Special Education Day | Dec 2nd

In conjunction with Darien’s PTOs and CDSP, the Special Education community is planning a show of appreciation for teachers and support service providers.

What is National Special Education Day? It is the anniversary of our nation’s first federal special education law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). On December 2, 1975, President Ford signed IDEA into law and made public education accessible to all eligible children with disabilities. This day reflects the incredible milestones achieved for special education and acknowledges the work that is still to come!

2021 is the first time PTOs are celebrating this day in Darien and we hope to make it an annual tradition. At Hindley, we are thanking our entire staff with lunch and thank you signs in the teacher’s lounge.

We would love your support, and here’s how you can help:

Families, caregivers and/or students can make a card or write a letter of appreciation for support service providers and teachers. Please bring them in on December 2. If you would like wording ideas or card templates, please email SE Rep, Lindsey DeVito.

If you have any questions, please email your SE Reps, Lindsey DeVito and Jeffrey Zimmerman or AP, SESS Leslie Davis

Thank you for your support!
