THE HINDLEY BOOK FAIR IS BACK IN PERSON!
We are so excited to announce the Hindley Book Fair is back in person this year and will run from Tuesday, October 19th – Friday, October 22nd. The fair will be run differently this year, with indoor and outdoor days that will allow for a variety of ways to shop. New this year, in addition to offerings from Follett, will be a small, curated setup from Barrett Bookstore during our outdoor shopping days. This section will focus on new releases and recommendations from Hindley’s Librarian, Jackie Heyde, as well as Hindley’s wonderful team of Literacy Specialists.
The book fair schedule will be as follows:
Independent Shopping
On Tuesday, October 19th and Wednesday, October 20th, the book fair will be set up in the Hindley Library, and 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will have the opportunity to shop independently with their class during school hours. Please see below for details on how to pre-pay for your students.
Outdoor Shopping- Parents Welcome
On Thursday, October 21st and Friday, October 22nd, the book fair moves outdoors and there has been a change in how our K-2 students will be shopping. K-2 students will attend the book fair with their class during designated, 20 minute time slots, and parents are welcome to attend and shop with their child(ren) during this time. For students in grades 3-5, as previously communicated, parents can attend during their designated recess time to shop with their child(ren). For grades 3-5, only those students with parents in attendance will be able to shop during recess. All other students will remain on the playground for recess as normal. You can find the schedule for your child’s assigned outdoor date and time here.
After School Shopping- Parents Welcome
As an additional opportunity for parents to shop with their child(ren), we will be hosting a shopping event after school from 3pm – 4pm on Friday, October 22nd. If you plan to attend during this time, we ask that you NOT park in the Hindley parking lot, but rather in the lower lot at Noroton Presbyterian Church. To make sure there is a smooth school dismissal, we ask that those parents attending mark their children down in School Dismissal Manager as “Walkers” and meet them at the Post Road Gate prior to returning to school grounds to attend the book fair.
Easy PRE-PAY Available
If you are unable to attend during the outdoor days, we are offering an easy Pre-Pay option so that your child can still do their book shopping. To pay online, please access pay4schoolstuff.com and click the SELECT button to the right of your student’s name to begin a pre-pay for a student, then the “Hindley Book Fair” SELECT button to place your order. If you have more than one child, you will need to pre-pay under each individual student’s account. You are welcome to pre-pay whatever amount you are comfortable with and any unused funds will be returned with your child. The deadline for all pre-pay orders is SUNDAY, OCTOBER 17th. As always, financial assistance is available and any requests should be made with Principal Snowden.
Teacher Wish Lists
Individual teacher wish lists are exclusively available at the Hindley companion E-fair running October 13 – October 22nd. You can access the Hindley E-fair here. You can locate teacher wish lists by accessing the drop down menu located at the top left corner of the site, click “View Wish Lists” and select your teacher from the drown down menu in the center of the page. Books generously purchased from the teacher wish lists will be sent directly to the school and, upon delivery, will include a sticker with your child’s name letting the teacher know who donated the book. Parents are also more than welcome to purchase their books directly on the E-fair site and deliver them to their homes.
Volunteers Needed!
The Hindley book fair isn’t possible without your help! We need parent support in setting up and breaking down our outdoor book fair days as well as help with our younger students during their shopping times. As the outdoor schedule has changed, we have modified the volunteer times. Please click here to sign up. For those that had previously registered to volunteer, please review the new times to confirm what will work with your schedule.
Submit a Pumpkin Decorated as Your Favorite StorybookCharacter
**OPTIONAL!** We are inviting each child to submit a pumpkin decorated as their favorite storybook character to get everyone into the book fair spirit! Pumpkins will be displayed during the outdoor days of the book fair and all students will be invited to vote on their favorite. Pumpkin submissions should be dropped off in the main school entry way on Wednesday, October 20th, and winners will be announced on Monday, October 25th. Click here for submission form.
